The snow that covers the grounds around the forest and WICKED’s headquarters does not just forcast chilly temperatures, instead it represents the utter ruthlessness of WICKED at this point in the novel. The coldness and inhospitable nature of the corrupted WICKED has reached its pinnacle. When the group broke out of the headquarters at the beginning of the novel that was the last straw for WICKED’s patience, now they will show them how big of a mistake it was, not caring what may be at stake. After the loss of their main test subjects, WICKED quickly improvised and collected immunes the entire world over not caring how many lives were wasted to search for a cure that may not exist. Snow is a solidified form of rain, which represents sorrow, or foreshadowing of tragedy. Therefore, the snow is a representation of the past suffering and tragedy that still weighs on the heels of those affected.
